Improving battery life means optimising the performance and profitability of electric vehicle purchases. Understanding the factors that lead to battery degradation and adopting proper recharging practices are essential elements in prolonging the life of your battery.<\/p>\n

Several factors influence the life of an electric vehicle battery. Among the main ones are :<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n

Charging and discharging cycles<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Each charge and discharge cycle affects the battery’s capacity. A large number of cycles can lead to progressive degradation. High charge cycles (from 0% to 100% battery) accelerate the ageing of the battery. Our intelligent recharging solutions recommend that you plug in frequently and don’t wait for the battery to fall below 20% energy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Prolonged stockage at high or low charge levels<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We recommend storing the battery at a medium charge level, generally between 30% and 50%. We control recharging so that your vehicle does not remain fully charged at rest, which improves its lifespan. This optimisation depends on your electricity tariff and your mobility needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preserving batteries, a priority<\/h2>

Other factors, such as temperature, can reduce the life of your vehicle’s batteries. Batteries do not like extreme cold or excessive heat. High temperatures can accelerate battery degradation.<\/p>\n

By applying intelligent V1G \/ V2G charging technologies, Dreev contributes to the rational use of your electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

In the case of V2G technology, charge\/discharge cycles are carried out according to the rules laid down by car manufacturers. This means that the use of V2G technology has no impact on the vehicle’s battery warranty. Car manufacturers’ priorities are the reliability and durability of their vehicles. EDF expertise<\/h2>

Tests were conducted within EDF’s R&D to evaluate the impact of V1G and V2G on battery life. These indicate the preferability of smart charging management compared to conventional charging.<\/p>\n

These tests are confirmed in a study published in May 2024 by a team of researchers in Germany. The bidirectional charging strategies studied in this article can provide additional services without significantly shortening the lifespan of the electric vehicle battery: ‘All V2X and late charging scenarios experience significantly lower degradation compared to immediate charging.’<\/p>\n
